  • Poor Economy Exacerbates Abuse Nationwide, Survey Reveals.

    San Marcos, TX -– Of interest to HCWC supporters is a recent nationwide survey of domestic violence shelters, which finds that incidents of violence are up again for the third straight year, and that women are staying longer in abusive relationships. Shelters surveyed indicate that the bad economy is a principal driver of these and other alarming trends found in the research, entitled Mary Kay Truth About Abuse" Survey: National Findings from Third Survey of Domestic Violence Shelters in the United States (Released April 2011).

  • Groundbreaking for new Roxanne's House, Center for Community Partnerships.

  • March 16, 2011
    San Marcos, TX -– HCWC supporters, board and staff were on hand for the official groundbreaking ceremony. HCWC's former shelter building (used into 2009) is being retrofitted to house Roxanne's House (our Child Advocacy Center heretofore located in downtown San Marcos) plus HCWC's new Center for Community Partnerships. This new Center will double our space for volunteer / intern training and community education, and provide offices for the majority of HCWC's program staff. Featured in the Hays Free Press.


  • Stays at Domestic Violence Shelters in Texas Jump as Much as 100% in 2010!

    IRVING, TX- For the third year in a row, domestic violence programs across Texas have seen an increase in families needing emergency services, according to an annual survey by The Allstate Foundation.
