Education and Prevention Programs
HCWC believes a critical tool in ending abuse and violence is increasing the general understanding
of family violence, sexual assault and child abuse so that community members are equipped with the
resources necessary to make a difference! In 2007, HCWC reached
7,842 people through 387 presentations.
Community & Professional Presentations
As requested, HCWC provides presentations to businesses, churches, classrooms, service clubs and community
organizations on a variety of topics, including but not limited to the Dynamics of Domestic and Sexual Violence, Internet Safety, How & When to Report Child Abuse, Supporting Survivors of Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment, Safety Planning for Victims of Family Violence and Domestic Violence & the Workplace. HCWC presentations are easily tailored to meet the needs of the group hosting the presentation.
Prevention Education Program
The Prevention Education Program is a comprehensive
program which focuses on the prevention of sexual violence and/or sexual
assault. This program collaborates
with
community members, professionals and organizations to address the root
causes of violence in order to prevent violence before it occurs. The
Prevention Education Program also works within the schools facilitating
presentations and groups that focus on addressing some of the risk
factors that lead to violence.
The Middle Way Parenting Program is a communication-based, interactive program that supports the development of healthy
family relationships and teaches compassionate assertiveness, empathetic/active
listening, empowerment and other skills to strengthen family relationships.
Through fostering these skills, the Middle Way Parenting Program works
to prevent future abuse within the home. For 10 weeks, 2 hours per week, participants engage in an introspective process of positive personal change. The Children’s Circle meets separately from the Parents Group, allowing facilitators to provide educational, social and emotional support appropriate to the age-range of group members.
