About Us

The Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC) is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization which offers free, short-term (up to six months) counseling and advocacy services to victims of family violence, sexual assault and child abuse who reside within the Hays County and Caldwell County area of Central Texas. HCWC also educates the community on the primary prevention of sexual assault and parenting. HCWC is headquartered in San Marcos and has an office in Lockhart.

HCWC operates a 50-person-capacity family violence shelter, the McCoy Family Shelter in San Marcos, where victims of family violence may normally stay for up to 30 days. HCWC operates the Children’s Advocacy Center known as Roxanne’s House in San Marcos, Texas. Our work with victims of child abuse may last as long as a court case which can span over a year.

As of 2012, HCWC has 33 employees (28 full-time and 5 part-time) who are assisted by 190 volunteers annually who provide more than 17,685 hours of volunteer service per year.  In the year ending September 30, 2012, direct services were provided to 1,541 victims of family violence, sexual assault and child abuse. HCWC responded to 1,941 HELPline calls and the HEARTeam conducted 31 hospital responses. Sixty-three people were served in the parenting program and 5,284 people were reached through the education program.  A 23-member Board of Directors (17 positions elected by the membership, 3 positions appointed by law enforcement, 2 emeritus positions and the Executive Director) governs the Center.

HCWC is supported by gifts from individuals, organizations, businesses, foundations, United Way of Hays County and local, state and federal government.
