Adopt-A-Family 2011Help empower families struggling with abuse this Holiday Season! HCWC's Adopt-A-Family Program directly supports our clients in need at the holiday season by taking them shopping at Target, Walmart and other stores to pick out gifts for their children. Please consider contributing $75.00 per child to HCWC's signature holiday program which empowers survivors as they rebuild their lives. Here's how it works. Donors provide funding for the purchase of presents at major retail stores. Meanwhile our staff carefully screens survivors of abuse who are most in need of help at the holidays. An HCWC trained "elf" accompanies the adult victim to a local store with funding valued according to the number of children ($75 per child). HCWC also furnishes donated gift wrapping supplies for the parent to lovingly wrap the gifts they selected. Lastly we give each adult his or her own specially wrapped gift. Adopt-A-Family helps clients feel empowered to make choices for their household since the "adoption" allows them to "shop" according to their children's preferences. Because abusers often compromise victims' ability to make decisions for their children, your donation gives them the joy of doing something special for their children again. The accompanying HCWC staff person ensures oversight in a non-threatening manner. Adopt-A-Family served 95 people in 2010. All Adopt-A-Family donors are sent a photograph of what their donations bought for the very family they were matched with. Based on your donations received by December 5, HCWC will determine how many families are gifted this year. Gifts received later may be reserved to gift families in 2012 or to provide critical emergency services for local survivors. Please note "Adopt-A-Family" on any monetary donations you would like to donate to the program with the donation form. Thanks for participating in Adopt-A-Family!
